Casa Carvalho is an authentic fisherman’s house at Salema beach that was completely renovated. It offers a spacious, fully equipped kitchen that merges into the living room, two comfortable bedrooms with shutters, a bathroom with a window and large shower, a corridor with plenty of space for beach utensils, and a terrace with shaded seating under a pergola, sunbeds and sunshades. On the terrace you can enjoy the unlimited sea view, watch the fishermen returning home from fishing early in the morning or, with a bit of luck, see dolphins passing by in the ocean.
In front of the house is a small park with a fitness trail. Anybody who wants to stay fit can exercise here and enjoy an outdoor training experience with ocean view.
The cozy kitchen has two roof windows that provide light and fresh air. The windows can be opened and closed with a remote control. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine, microwave, etc…
The internet in Casa Carvalho is for free and can be accessed via Wi-Fi. There is also an HDMI cable available that can be used to connect a laptop to the flat-screen TV and a satellite dish that provides access to English and many other TV channels.
The price per night covers internet, bedlinen/sheets and towels that can be changed weekly if necessary, heating, and final cleaning. If needed, we can provide a travel bed for children with bedding and bedlinen, and a high chair without additional charges.
Even during winter season Casa Carvalho is a cozy place to stay: There is a fireplace in the living room and natural stone heating in all rooms, that can easily be regulated by thermostat.

An excellent and comfortable place to stay even in February!

20. February 2025

I actually wanted to describe the many small and large advantages of this cozy little house here, but the other reviewers have already done that well and in detail. So just one important addition: We were there in the first two weeks of February, when it gets cool and quite windy. But the house is prepared for this, there is no draft anywhere and there are large, electrically operated heating stones on the walls in all rooms. They get so hot that you must not hang anything over them to dry. When we arrived, the winter cold was still in the house, but the heaters were already on and after just half a day, the small, cozy house always welcomed us with a pleasant warmth after our walks – and that without having to turn the thermostats up any further. You can also rely on the hot shower after a brave swim in the cold sea. Salema is very quiet at this time of year, almost all shops and restaurants are closed, but the “Atlantico” is open. And it’s not far to the supermarket on the N125 near Budens. So Casa Carvalho is a great tip for February too!

One thing to keep in mind, though: the sea, which you can see clearly, can also be heard clearly. During a winter storm, the noise can be really loud, and even if you close the modern windows in the bedrooms, it can take some getting used to. Or the right romantic attitude. Or earplugs 😉

Thank you, Mr and Mrs Carvalho! We’d love to come back

Location, location, location

Salema has actually managed to retain its incredible charm of the 80s at its core and is therefore very different from Lagos and the towns further east in the Algarve. Casa Carvalho impresses with its TOP location 50 metres from the beach and the unobstructed view of Praia Salema, still a sensational beach. Short distances to the really very good restaurants in the village and a nearby reserved car park complete the great picture. However, only experienced drivers should park and leave the car, as the car park for Casa Carvalho in particular is very narrow and steep😎. The very friendly hosts Marion and Rui help and support wherever they can.

A little dream

16. June 2024

The cottage is wonderful! Very well equipped, everything you need, very cosy, very clean! Two nice bedrooms, great terrace, beautiful view, the beach just a few steps away… There is also a car parking space!

Marion and Rui are super nice and happy to help if there are any questions…

Salema is always worth a visit anyway! We look forward to the next time!

Fantastic

31. May 2024

We were in Salema for a week and it was fantastic. The holiday home is nicely decorated, very clean and well -kept and offers everything you need. The location with a view of the nearby sea is fantastic. Shops, bars and several very good restaurants can be reached on foot and the location is optimal for exploring the Algarve. We can absolutely recommend this holiday home!

fantastic

3. December 2023

Last summer we stayed at Casa Carvalho. It was fantastic. The view is great and we could see the children playing at the beach and in the sport-playground. The house is well maintained while the traditional architectural style of the region, which I like so much and feel connected to as I lived there when I was young, is preserved/respected.
