The former fisherman’s house Casa Carvalho is located directly by the sea and is therefore the ideal spot for a relaxing beach vacation. The beach is only 2 minutes away. Casa Carvalho is an authentic fisherman’s house at Salema beach that was completely renovated. It offers a spacious, fully equipped kitchen that merges into the living room, two comfortable bedrooms with shutters, a bathroom with a window and large shower, a corridor with plenty of space for beach utensils, and a terrace with shaded seating under a pergola, sunbeds and sunshades. On the terrace you can enjoy the unlimited sea view, watch the fishermen returning home from fishing early in the morning or, with a bit of luck, see dolphins passing by in the ocean.
In front of the house is a small park with a fitness trail. Anybody who wants to stay fit can exercise here and enjoy an outdoor training experience with ocean view.
The cozy kitchen has two roof windows that provide light and fresh air. The windows can be opened and closed with a remote control. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine, microwave, etc…
The internet in Casa Carvalho is for free and can be accessed via Wi-Fi. There is also an HDMI cable available that can be used to connect a laptop to the flat-screen TV and a satellite dish that provides access to English and many other TV channels.
The price per night covers internet, bedlinen/sheets and towels that can be changed weekly if necessary, heating, and final cleaning. If needed, we can provide a travel bed for children with bedding and bedlinen, and a high chair without additional charges.
Even during winter season Casa Carvalho is a cozy place to stay: There is a fireplace in the living room and natural stone heating in all rooms, that can easily be regulated by thermostat.

Authentic, quiet, unique
We stayed at Casa Carvalho with our two older boys. The house is small but somehow cozy. The thick walls ensure a pleasant indoor climate, which is why you can sleep wonderfully at night with the sound of the ocean waves in your ears. The house is simple, but we couldn’t have asked for anything more! Thank you for your hospitality!
Highly recommended!
Starting with the friendly welcome, we felt very comfortable at Carvalho House for 14 days (in July 2025). The bed linen and towel change after a week and the proximity to the beach are particularly noteworthy. This means you can go back and forth between the house and the beach several times a day, as it is very close by. We also really liked the second entrance door, right next to the bathroom, so that sand from the beach wasn’t carried through the entire living area.
Other plus points:
– The view of the sea from the terrace
– The terrace was half covered, so there was always a shady spot
– The house had a pleasant room temperature thanks to the skylights and slatted shutters

My wife and I stayed here about 10 years ago. Why did we leave it so long to return ??? I really don’t know.

Beautiful
As a family with two children, we’ve stayed at Casa Carvalho for the fourth time, and we’ve been thrilled every time. It’s beautifully situated and, in addition to its charm, offers everything you could possibly need for a vacation. The two-minute walk to the beach is a generous estimate—our children probably dashed from the terrace to the edge of the waves in 30 seconds or less.
Salema itself, in addition to the beautiful beach and cliffs, also offers several restaurants and bars. It’s also a great base for excursions in all directions. We had a wonderful rest and are already looking forward to our next visit!
Everything is there: spring sunshine, hospitality and a great place to stay!
4 weeks in February-March 2025: It was simply wonderful! The house has everything you need. The terrace with its incredible view is especially great. Everything is possible here: relaxing in the spring sunshine or experiencing a full-blown Atlantic storm firsthand. Plus, wonderful hosts and a great location where you can find amazing restaurants. Our favorite: fish at Lourenzo! Thanks again to the Carvalho family, and see you soon!
