Our Tips for Salema

Salema is a small fishing village but there is still a lot to discover. Here are a few tips:

Restaurants

As already mentioned, there is a wide range of restaurants in different price categories in Salema. From snack bars to upscale restaurants – you can find a place for everyone’s taste and budget. We put together some recommendations for you:

At the top of the beach promenade, you can find the Boia Bar with a stunning beach view from the terrace. Here you can have breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner or simply enjoy a delicious cocktail while watching the beach life.

The relaxed beach restaurant Olhos N’agua is also located directly at the beachfront. They serve a wide variety of tapas, snacks, clams, fresh fish, and seafood of all kinds that you can enjoy with fine wines, good music and a stunning ocean view.

Located in the Rua dos Pescadores street, the Água Na Boca restaurant is the perfect place for an exquisite dinner. It offers Portuguese and international cuisine at its best. Due to its excellent reputation that goes beyond the borders of Salema, this restaurant is very well-attended, and a reservation is therefore not only recommended but necessary.

Supermarket

Most regulars and Salema fans will probably know the “Salema Market”, that used to be located in the Rua dos Pescadores street. Fortunately, the small supermarket has by no means disappeared but was moved to the other side of the village up the hill and into the complex “Salema Praia Clube”. The product assortment was extended, and the bread and croissants are now freshly baked in the market. As usual, you can find fresh fruit and vegetables of very good quality there on a daily basis. The very friendly Portuguese owner speaks English, German and French.

Beach

Salema beach has two areas where you can rent single or twin sun beds with sunshades. For those who prefer to sit on the sand, there is plenty of space to set up your camp. In front of Boia Bar you can find a massage pavilion – spoil yourself with a massage on the beach while listening to the murmur of the waves.

During a walk on the beach you can have a look at the daily catch of the fishermen, admire the impressive rock formations or discover 140 million-year-old footprints of dinosaurs.

Divers can explore two shipwrecks off Salema beach.

Activities

On the central square of Salema, the Largo da Liberdade, “The Way Tours” offers a wide range of leisure activities that can be booked on site: Bicycle tours, SUP tours, hikes over the cliffs, kayak tours and much more.

With “Salematours” you can go on a dolphin watching tour that starts at Salema beach or on a boat trip to admire the unique caves of the Algarve. We recommend booking the Salematours online.
